Secure Board Communication

Many boards still communicate with their employees via insecure communication channels. A recent report by Diligent Corporation found that 56 percent of directors use their personal email for communication with the board. And even governance professionals and C-level executives do so as well. This is a risk that must be addressed.

It is crucial to convince board members of the importance of secure communications. This involves educating them about the reasons their current practices make them vulnerable to data breach and helping them understand how much it will cost in terms lost time, cyberattacks, and compliance violations.

Boards need to be aware of the fact that they are a prime targets for cyber criminals. Hackers often target high-profile individuals such as board directors and C-level executives due to their access to sensitive information that is of value to them. This makes them a good attack target for ransomware, which are when criminals threaten to release sensitive information unless they are paid a payment.

To prevent this from happening, it’s imperative that the board consider adopting the governance platform that replaces emails and text messaging with a more secure system of record, which uses encrypted data delivery and a specially-designed mobile application. This will eliminate the need to share confidential or insider information in unsecure email accounts or document systems which are managed by the organization’s IT teams and creates an independent platform that will enable boards to continue to lead during times of crises.
